I’m still alive! February 15, 2008

But the thing is, this blog isn’t what I want it to be. One, it’s getting too personal, and while I feel that I should be putting a lot of myself into it, I’d rather be talking about social happenings, or successful friends, or just have some fun talking about the latest Ugly Betty episode! I’m so glad the writer’s strike is over. Sadly Heroes is supposedly waiting til fall for their next new episode. Lame.

Anyway, it’s 3:30, tomorrow (well today I suppose) is my sister’s B-Day.

Update, DNC, Global Warming Day January 30, 2008

So the first month of 2008 seems to be wrapping up very nicely in someways but has left me with some road blocks to deal with entering the month of February. Nothing I’m really going to talk about here.

School appears to be going well so far. I seem to actually be into my classes as they are a pretty diverse mix as well as interesting. The work load is also pretty damn intense for just half-time. But I’m excited all the same to be there for the first time in a long while.

Work. I love my job. It’s crazy but it’s true. I’m looking to promote to Assistant Store Manager sometime in the future, maybe within the next six months or so. I’ve taken on a lot more responsibility and have been stepping up on operations of the store in general, taking a great interest in all things going on. It helps to have an amazing team to work with.

In other news, anticipation for the Democratic National Convention is really starting to heat up in Denver mostly because it means the city will practically be shut down for a period of a week for security reasons. Basically avoid it at all costs, at least the LoDo area. I’m excited for it although I’m not big into politics. It’s just a very exciting time and in the scope of things, this is huge for Denver and can either make or break this city. I’m just thankful I wont be going to school down there seeing as they have had to rearrange the beginning of the semester so that they start a week early to have the next week of cause of the DNC. At least that’s the idea they’re toying with.

Apparently there is this big national Global Warming awareness day at several collages around the country. It’s February first and on that day each class will be tying their curriculum to fit in with Global Warming awareness. Here’s the link to the organization’s, Focus the Nation, website:  http://www.focusthenation.org/

So that is it for now. Peace!

Update, Movies, New Banner January 22, 2008

Been a while since I’ve posted I know. Sorry about that. Trying to get things in order and I seem to have finally have done that to a point. To celebrate I made a new banner using my newly gifted Adobe Illustrator! I’m excited. I’ll probably be redoing it often cause I love to change things up.

I guess it’s time to update though. I pretty much failed last semester so I’ve cut back this semester, doing school only part time while I try and figure some things out. At the same time I’m working a lot more which is good cause one: I enjoy my job, and two: it brings in the money, at least enough for me to get by.

I’ll give a quick movie update as well…

Movies that I recommend:

Juno: Very fun, cutesie, funny, heart warming, etc. The acting is pretty damn good and the story was well done. Ellen Paige is pretty gifted in that she’s been able to move into very different roles with ease ie: a girl bent on revenge against a sexual predator in Hard Candy, a girl who can walk through walls in X-Men III: The Last Stand, and a pregnant sixteen-year-old in Juno. The Golden Globes messed up not giving her the award.

Atonement: This one was a surprise for me. The preview didn’t really catch my attention. The story was well done, which kept the pacing in the film decent in that there weren’t many periods of boredom, of “can we get on with this.” The acting was pretty good, especially the little girl who played, Briony Tallis at age 13. I was also fairly impressed with Ms. Keira Knightly as she put on a very serious and darker performance fitting for the mood of the story.

And of course, Cloverfield: I was surprised how much I enjoyed this film. The main thing that did it for me was the way it was filmed and the way the story progressed. It managed to pull of a successful, first person narrative, only showing us as much info as the protagonists saw. For the genre it does a few new things that are pretty exciting and while it still fits into the general popcorn movie genre it still leaves one with a few things to think about.

So that’s about all I got right now. Just catching up on some homework and some chores around the place. Hopefully I’ll have a more thought out and information post for next time.

Thanksgiving in brief November 24, 2007

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone. Another dinner with the family. Another day of feeling secluded and uncomfortable despite all the warm well-wishing of the folks and friends. I just get this lonely feeling whenever I’m at home. It’s like a whole part of me just has to shut up and play along as if there isn’t a fag in the family. But really it’s not that bad.   The first night we all just sat around, watched Transformers, I love that movie a little too much, talked about Christmas plans, school, work, the usual. Thursday I slept in, waking to the scent of made-from-scratch stuffing. I lounged around a while, looked at the ads for the big Black Friday, door buster sales events that would take place tomorrow. After I showered I just sat around and read one of the novels for school that I’ve yet to finish. I’ve been so bad with getting work done over break, surprise surprise. Dinner was awesome as always. My mom always out does herself every year. We had our turkey which was extremely well done this year, one of the best yet, stuffing, squash, green bean, and corn casserole (not all as one ew!), some other little odds and ends, all together a well rounded meal which of course was rounded off with a good healthy serving of pumpkin pie. Then I just kind of passed out after saying good night to everyone, and good bye since they’d all be gone in the morning.  I woke up, got dressed and headed up to Westminster to see Beowulf with Johanna. It was alright, seeing it in 3D was probably what made it worth seeing as the acting sucked, and the story, well let’s just say you gotta take it with a grain of salt. It’s entertaining to say the least, just see it in 3D if you see it at all. It is the coolest part.  Then I came home and went to go meet my friend Jason from DC who’s out here with his family for the break. We went to dinner at the Rio and then came home and watched Kiss. Kiss. Bang. Bang., probably one of my favorite movies ever. So funny. We had a good chance to catch up on each other’s lives. It was a good time. Took him home and now I’m here writing this when I really should be in bed since I do have to work bright and early in the am tomorrow. So good night.

To Not Think October 28, 2007

I left Flatiron Crossing intent on getting home to try out the new Leopard operation system I’d purchased earlier. I’d go home and load it and read while it took its two-hours to complete. I pull into Boulder via highway 36 but I don’t get off at my exit. I just keep going. And going. Past CU, past 29th Street Mall, past Thunderbird Burgers and I end up in North Boulder. I could get off at Valmont but I think instead I’ll take this to highway 93 (Broadway). But I just bypass it. That’s when I decided I’d drive all the way up to Estes Park.  On my drive I passed through the more scenic parts of Boulder County. There is very little traffic. I have my windows cracked a bit and the heater going which gives a nice mix of warmth and a cool October breeze. The sun is on its way to setting. It’ll be dark on my way back. I find myself in Lyons, the last major dot on the map before Estes. I pass through slowly, watching as parents guide their children, dressed up in various costumes, to no doubt some Halloween party or early trick-or-treating.I pull out of Lyons and start heading into the mountains. Thus begins my ascent into the higher altitudes of the Rocky Mountains. It’s chilly so I roll up my windows and crank up the heater a bit more. I soon find myself in a large patch of dense fog, adding to that feel of late Autum. I pass some cabins and hotels, a few houses tucked back here and there. I turn off the radio. The only sound I hear at this point is the hum of my engine. Ocasionally, my own thoughts intrude on this peace. Thoughts about turning around, thoughts about staying the night in Estes or at the very least, have some dinner. About forty minutes into my drive I find myself exiting Boulder County and going into Lariamer County. The fog has gone and I can see patches of blue sky. Soon after, I see the sign for Estes Park, carved letters into a large stone slab. A valley lay below me and scattered about are houses, hotels and overlooking the whole town, the Stanley Hotel. I remember the last time I spent some decent time here. It was the Highland Festival a few years back, seventh or eighth grade, I don’t remember. I pass a small lake, or rather drive down the middle of it over a bridge. I notice I need gas. I pull into town, keeping an eye out for the nearest station, while at the same taking in the sites. Tourists are sparse, probably getting to cold at this point to be meandering about. I follow the road to drive past the Stanley and then loop around back into town. A large herd of Elk had come down and scattered themselves through out the town, giving kids and adults alike something fun to see. There’s a gas station a little ways away that I make my way towards. I fill up, grab a couple of snacks and get back on the road. At this point I’ve decided it’d be best to get home and eat, do some homework and install Leopard. So I hop back on 36. It’s dark at this point making that patch of fog even more erie. Back into Boulder County, back through Lyons and finally back to North Boulder, I turn down on 93 and follow that through town as it becomes Broadway.  I couldn’t really tell you why I decided to go to Estes, for gas at the most. It seems pretty silly. I guess I just needed a drive, needed to get away, time to think, or rather not think about anything at all.

Caught-Up, Across the Universe, Healthy Addiction October 8, 2007

Sorry for the late postings. They seem to be few and far between which was not my goal at all for this blog. But things are finally getting back in order with my life so I’m happy. The last weeks were Hell. I had four papers due within four days of each other on top of a project, that combined with a total of 12 hours of sleep for one week makes for a very unhappy me. But I’m good now.

I decided it’d be best to cut down my hours just a little bit in order to get homework done before 4am every night. Seriously, having to have your mother call you in the morning to make sure you’re awake is rather embarassing.

Across the UniverseThis weekend I did manage to get out. I went and had coffee with my friend, Jenel and then we met up with Jake to see Across the Universe. I was very happy with the film. It’s beautiful, funny, and entertaining. The actors did an impressive job with covering the Beatles songs (I thought Bono and Eddie Izzard were some of the more interesting performances). Going into the movie, I was concerned that the visuals would be overdone, destroying the story along with it but it ended up working out in a very beautiful way. Basically I’d see it again.

And now for a less cultured plug: Transformers comes out on DVD on October 16th and I’m so excited! I have also developed a healthy (or unhealthy, as my homework would see it) addiction to Heroes. Yeah so I’m a little late in the game. I was bored one night and decided to download, via iTunes, the first episode. I was immediately drawn in and the damn show hasn’t let go. For television I feel it’s very well done, adding a sorely missed, down to Earth, human element, I feel is missing from most stories involving heroes. Not that those stories don’t have a human quality to them, this just seems much more personal. I feel for all the characters.

Hopefully I’ll update more. I can’t make promises though. Until then, cheers!

It has been a long time since I’ve blogged. At all. Not on Facebook, Myspace or LJ (which wont be active much longer anyway). So I figured it was time to do a little update here.

Basically, I’ve made the transition back to Boulder and it’s been fairly smooth. My apartment is cozy and close to the highway which means easy escape from this small and crazy town.

School is in full swing now with due dates making their way onto my calendar. I’m enjoying all my classes emensly, something that has not really happened since my senior year of High School. I just feel motivated, like I know that what I’m doing now is the right thing for the time being.

My Meaning of Info Tech (MIT) class is by far the most fascination because it marks the beginning of my pursual of a certificate in Technology, Arts and Media (TAM). This is just a beginners’ course with an intro to the history of computers, the internet, and the world wide web but it is just fascinating actually being in a class room where we can all talk freely about new things everyday. I love it. I’m also hoping to take a supplemental course on Photoshop. While I have some experience, it’ll be nice to go over it all in a classroom setting as opposed to just diving right in.

Work is going well. I’m slowly but surely adjusting to my new store/position and the money is a bit better. The hours are pretty killer but these are the sacrifces I must make to get where I need to be financially.

Running the Gay-Straight Alliance at my school is turning out to be a lot of fun despite the work that comes along with it. Our main event, The Twisted Fairy Tales Drag Show appears to finally be coming along nicely despites a few set backs so heres to hoping it’s even bigger and better than the last.

That’s it for now. I’d post about my opinions on Britney and Chris Crocker but I feel like that’d be the same as beating a dead horse with a stick. Sorry for the image.

Update, Die Hard, Coming Soon June 28, 2007

Okay so it’s almost time for me to get this thing going, just have to finish up the banner and really a really good post to start off with. I’m pretty excited.

I’ll go ahead and give you my review of Live Free or Die Hard. I went in not holding too many expectations primarily because I’m not too familiar with the franchise. I do have to say that I really enjoyed the film though. The premise is freaky, the action intense, and Bruce Willis is still one tough bird.

With the introduction of Justin Long’s character as well as the villian, we get a nice blend of the “modern technology” age versus Willis’ world of physical, fist and gun toting action. While the concept is cliche, they really did a good job of making it interesting. So over all, I give this 4 out of 5 stars.

So I thought I’d throw something out there to read. Hopefully I’ll have more to go on as I comment on things in my daily life, things going on in and around Denver, or even things going on in the world. I’m excited!

I have finally decided it was time to start doing my own blog. I’ve been posting on Facebook and Myspace but the only people who read that stuff are my friends so I thought this would be a better outlet to just write and see who reads it.

With that said, this site will be in construction for a while as I begin to figure all the little details out and get it the way I’d like it. Hopefully it wont be too long so I can just get at it.

So wish me luck and I’ll be back!
